Laurels

I was recently called as the Laurel adviser in our new ward. I was dumbfounded, as I've been a teacher for so long. I soon got really excited, and then intimidated. As I'm getting to know the girls, I have 5, I'm more and more impressed with them. Our activity tonight was a mini book club. We each brought our favorite books, up to 3, and talked about them, one at a time. I had brought some basic questions to guide us. I was worried that it seem boring to them, but we had a great time. Everyone was really enthusiastic about presenting their books and we had great discussions. We had a lot of fun, and I'm so glad!

What were the books that you shared with your Laurels at your mini book club?

Even though I feared that I was being too cliche for words, I brought Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice. I thought that would be redundant, but then I remembered that they are 16 and 17, so they aren't necessarily as devoted (fanatical) as I am. And, indeed, most had not read them yet.
I also brought Winnie-the-Pooh. It is so witty and clever.
Thanks for asking! Please include yours!

I did like Jane Eyre, what I read of it. Hard for me to get through it all, as well as the Austin books. I do occasionally like to WATCH P & P. I found Wuthering Heights interesting, but a little confusing, but I did always wonder why authors don't usually use the same name in the book, you know, in my life I know soooooo many Johns and Davids, but you never really find that in books, unless it is Wuthering Heights. I guess I just need things to move faster for me. I still have not gotten through Les Miserables, maybe 1/3 of the way in the unabridged. Too much detail, maybe that is why there is an abridged version.

Books at the top of my list include:
Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis; The entire Narnia collection, in particular The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, also by Lewis; Jayhawk by Keddington (Loo understands, Moo may mock) Okay, that is mostly fluff, but it did get me reading. By the way, was checking for the spelling of Keddington on Amazon. Jayhawk paperback (used) beginning at $49.00; Return to Red Castle beginning at $99 plus S&H.
