I really had dreams, despite my self-effacing start, that I would write daily and record with wit and intelligence the adventures of my life. However, my complete lack of any technical savvy stopped me dead in my tracks when I couldn't figure out how to get back to my blog. Really.
Also, despite mentioning the grand opening of my blog, I don't know how to invite anyone to read it. But I can imagine the adoring throngs!
Well, lets get to what any of you really care about: Annika.
At four 1/2 months she:
- has started to roll over and always looks a little surprised to find herself in such new and exciting positions,
- has continued to smile and smile and smile, and has started to add laughs in with them.
While visiting Grampa and Gran Greathouse, she has proved her imperturbable nature, as Zephyr (welsh corgie?) has repeatedly shown her (and me) who is boss of the house. He does so fairly loudly and forcefully, and she rarely bats an eyelash at him.
Annika also continues in her superhuman capacity for spit up. This is really not as endearing as it sounds.
She also has begun to scoot backwards forcefully and without warning. I dread the day when she flies off the changing table and am working on a strategy to prevent this.
In short, she is delightful in almost every way (see remark about spit up) and we love her dearly!

I will learn the intricacies of adding pictures at another time, but for those of you who aren't familiar with our site on Flickr.com email me and I will invite you.
By Way of Introduction
What on earth is a webding? The first choice I'm given to start my illustrious blogging career is to choose a font and I'm presented with webdings. All that's coming to mind are waterwings on a duck. And they hardly need them.
I guess I can write whatever I want, so I started with webdings. And unlike David Letterman, I cannot parlay that one oddity into an entire television program of laughs, I will now move on from the webdings.
Primarily I'll write to inform family and friends of our little family's happenings, but also for me to keep track of our little family's happenings. An interest in journal writing has continually eluded me, but if I was responsible for keeping doting grandparents, etc. apppraised of Annika's doings, perhaps I might try a little harder.
So, enough about me and on to the unbiased accounts of my genius girl.
Annika is 3 1/2 months old now and continues to make us laugh and sometimes just stare in awe and wonder. Her newest achievement is blowing raspberries and other actions in that category. It involves a lot of drool and cooing, grunting, etc. She'll lay on her "Jamboree Gym" and conversationally spit at all her friends there, discussing the latest happenings of Christopher Robin and Pooh. Sometimes I think she is scolding them for their various follies. Either way, it stops us in our tracks as we can do nothing but admire her loquaciousness. (Not sure about that word, but it is what I mean.)
The less darling trait of our little girl is her inhuman capacity for spit-up. We bought xxl men's shirts from Goodwill to wear as smocks for feeding and burping her, but still have to do an environmentally irresponsible amount of laundry. Sometimes the deluge occurs in public and we find ourselves mopping up the grocery store floor. How life does change!
As for John and I, we are loving Oregon. We've been to rose gardens, a chinese garden, we went strawberry picking (4lbs for $3.00) and raspberry picking (5lbs for $7.00!) I even made raspberry lemonade freezer jam, a la Kim Bryant.
People here are extremely friendly and we hope to start emulating them real soon!
We've been exploring neighborhoods and have even gone to see a few houses. We're still not sure how soon we might proceed with the terrifying, yet exciting, venture of buying a house. Our dreams of square footage and a jolly backyard for our kids have been met with the harsh reality of Hillsboro green space laws. The average yard here is (scientifically calculated by me) the size of the occasional grassy spot between parking spots. (Upscale parking lots. Only found in the best of areas.) Anyway, you get my meaning, the yards are minuscule.
As my princess stirs, I'll close my inaugural blog with a hearty thanks to those that humor me in reading something that is in truth, barely coherent.
